Detailed Satellite Part Design & Build Program

Time to make the satellite work! We have completed the high level design of the 1U cube satellite in the previous phase. This is the program phase to have students designing and making the specific parts of the 1U satellite. Each student will be responsible of at least one part of the satellite or modelling relavent orbit, launch and test setup. Put your textbook knowledge into use! The program tasks may include and are not limited to:

  • Modelling and making the satellite frame
  • Modelling and making the thermal insulation
  • Modelling and making the vibration absorption mechanism
  • Calculating and testing for the center of mass of the satellite
  • Prototyping the any deployable mechanism that moves
  • Making electromagnets
  • Putting solar panels together
  • Designing circuit boards
  • Soldering electrical boards
  • Coding electronics
  • Testing cameras
  • Accurate modelling of the orbital path and conditions
  • Ageing and degradation of the satellite
  • and many more …

It is exciting and challenging. Therefore, tutors and engineers will be supporting each step of the design and build.

Buddy Bundle 🥑

If you have a friend who shares the same passion for space and you believe you can work efficiently together, you can register as Buddies by entering each other’s names in the registration form.

As long as both of you complete the programme and share two observations about what makes teamwork effective, you will both receive a Buddy Reward.

Buddy Reward 🎉

  • If both students participated in the previous phase of the Student Satellite Programme:
Receive 3% of the current programme fee back, or equivalent satellite team merchandise.
  • If one or both students are new to the programme and are willing to support and coach each other:
Receive 5% of the current programme fee back, or equivalent satellite team merchandise.

Buddy Rules 📐

  • Each student can register with a maximum of two buddies:
    • one new student
    • one returning student
  • Buddy registration closes the day before the programme starts.
  • Both students must enter each other’s names in their registration forms.
  • If this was missed during registration, both students must email contact@PracticalSciLab.com to confirm the buddy pairing.
